Adelle tells the tale of a young deaf girl who is left in the middle of nowhere by her parents in the 1930′s. Adelle is forced to try and survive based on her very limited life skills. Along the way, her voyage turns into a very dark, horrifying trip.

The film echoes the dark themes presented in stories like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz, and presents a visual smorgasbord for viewers. “We set out to make a very trippy, scary film from the perspective of the child. We came out of production very happy with the work we accomplished.” said co-writer/director Andy Davis.

Adelle was written by children’s poetry author Sandy McKeon and horror filmmaker Andy Davis. Adelle marks the seventh film for Davis as director. Strange Maine readers may remember our extensive coverage of some of his prior films, including the zombie apocalypse movie 2 (see production photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/darkbrilliance/sets/72157594554822363/). The main body of Davis's work with Emptyhouse Film was collected in the DVD set "Twisted Tales from Maine" which we reviewed back in February 2009 (here). Adelle has the proud honor of being slated for release and distribution by Elite Entertainment very shortly.

THE TIME IS NIGH! Man-Witch Art NOW!

Dear friends and curious onlookers--
The time is nigh! Even now, the brave and stalwart allies of the Man-Witch gather their artistic might and rally their brushes and pens for a mighty onslaught of art, the likes of which Portland has never seen. Those who wish to join their ranks are invited to submit their offerings of art inspired by the band Man-Witch NOW! The submission period closes July 25th. Pieces may be dropped off at Geno's Rock Club (http://www.myspace.com/genosrockclub, 625 Congress Street, Portland, Maine), where entry forms can also be found.

Please forward this information to anyone who may be interested, with our gratitude.

All of the glorious art treasures that result will be on display during the First Friday Artwalk here in Portland, and thereafter for the month of August!

WHEN: August 1, 5:30-8:00pm, live show at 9:30pm
WHERE: Geno's Rock Club, 625 Congress Street, Portland, Maine
WHAT: First Friday Artwalk, opening of the Man-Witch Art Show, followed by a live performance by Man-Witch and guests Ashabti (brand new Portland metal, featuring members of Gift of Tongues, Kurixis, and H.O.S.T.). During the show, the creators of the most mind-blowing pieces of Man-Witch will receive special awards (those not present for the proceedings will be contacted later).

MORE INFO on entering the show:
Artists have been invited to execute artwork inspired by Man-Witch's members, their stage set, and their songs. Draw the Death Truck! Draw the Flaming Pillow of Fear! Draw the Necro-Atomic-Abominomicon! Heck, draw the Super Ultra Mega Terrifyafearinator... if you dare!

Art must be ready to hang! Sorry, no freestanding sculpture (the lobby is a little too trafficked and hazardous for freestanding art to survive long). Wall-mounted sculpture is fine.

Entry forms will be provided at drop-off, or contact one of the members of Portland's Art Horde for more information and alternate drop-off points:

    EVENT: Poultrygeist premiere TONIGHT!

Well, there's nothing more strange than a Troma film, and this one has a touch of home in it. Covered in Bees, local punk friendlies and rabblerousers, are featured on the soundtrack, so Lloyd Kaufman, indy-filmmaker supreme, has gone out of his way to throw a Maine premiere of the movie here in Portland!

Go to the 7:30pm showing of the film at Nickelodeon Theatre on Temple Street, and follow up with a bang-up rock and roll show at Geno's tonight. Save your ticket stub, and save $2 on the $10 cover charge. They'll be serving hot wings for snacks!

Be forewarned, this tale of chicken zombies is not for the faint of heart, as Troma delights in pushing the envelope of acceptibility (which we love them for, but which might be upsetting to the unprepared).

Who: Covered In Bees, Confusatron, and Bass Box

    When:
    Friday Sep 07, 2007
at 7:30 PM, the Maine premiere of Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead by Troma Video, hosted by director Lloyd Kaufman
at 9:00 PM, the Tromafest show with all those crazy musician guys and Lloyd Kaufman as guest of honor

    Where:
at 7:00 PM, at Nickelodeon Theater, 1 Temple Street, Portland (view map)
at 9:00 PM, at Geno’s Rock Club, 625 Congress Street, Portland (view map)
