Just when you thought it was safe to go to the newsstand, the October issue of the Strange Maine Gazette hits the streets! Issue #5 is bright purple and covered with ghosts, so it is darn hard to miss. This issue veers away from fact and history to focus on everyone's favorite Halloween pasttime, SCARY STORIES!!!Starting with a quick note on Maine's own breed of ghost chasers, it proceeds to run amuck through the ghastly fields of Lovecraft's terror of the northern woods of Maine (The Thing on the Doorstep), Maine poet Edwin Arlington Robinson's short and shivery poem about The Tavern in his imaginary Maine town of Tilbury, and a recent fictional account of what was seen after the Cumberland County Fair by yours truly.
Cavorting with glee around all these tasty textual treats are a host of haunting illustrations created as a special treat for readers of this issue.
