The new Gazette is out!

Hear ye, hear ye! The so-called "Late Summer" issue of the Strange Maine Gazette is out and has hit the streets! Subscribers should have their copies any day now, and vendors will likewise have the new issue in hand -- they've all been mailed. If you're in Portland, you can find it at several locations in the downtown area (see below).

Who knows what will surface? The show customarily features a mix of soundtracks, novelties, spoken word, experimental, and instrumentals from all genres, especially jazz, surf, and r&b, but the Strange Maine interview show creates a neat hybrid of these elements with extensive interview segments interspersed. Nifty dandy!!!

New Issue of the Gazette!

Hello everyone! Just a note to let you know that issues of the Strange Maine Gazette's first issue of 2011 are on their way out into the world. I just updated the list of places you can get copies of it (see righthand side of blog page), and added a bunch of new spots. If you know a place that would like to carry issues of the quarterly publication, drop me a line with the address to send them to and I'll add them to the list.

Most of the Portland locations have the new issue, and other towns' issues will be in the mail on Monday, so check with those fine establishments later next week! Subscribers will have their new issues within the next few days. Hooray!

The book!

Well the wait is over -- I finally have the first batch of copies of my book in hand! Published by the History Press, Strange Maine: True Tales of the Pine Tree State is officially out and about.

Readers of the Strange Maine Gazette will recognize a few of the original research stories I did for the paper, but there is also a lot of new material, photos, illustrations, and interviews that are fresh reading even for my regulars. :)

I have copies of them at my bookshop, The Green Hand, 661 Congress Street here in Portland, Maine. The publisher set the retail at $17.99. Please do stop by if you are interested in picking one up! I'll also have copies at the Sanctuary Tattoo 10th Anniversary bash that is being held to benefit Preble Street Resource Center, which recently lost one of its major sources of funding.

The new Gazette is out!

I'll be dropping the new Winter 2009 issue of the Strange Maine Gazette at various points around Portland (see my list in the sidebar to the right) over the course of the week, so keep your eyes peeled! Copies are being mailed out today to the out-of-town spots and current subscribers, so all you outlying folks will get a chance to put your hands on one too. Huzzah!

This issue has some fun stuff, covering the last wolf in Maine, whistling swans, wildcats, and a mysterious taxidermist/city marshal. Plus, we review Emptyhouse Film's Twisted Tales from Maine DVD 4-pack, and have a great letter-to-the-editor follow-up to our Bigfoot in Maine series.
